Is it possible that you simply bunked the Windows install process? In this post you?ve eliminated everything but the Windows install itself. Can you play single player? If you get through a whole game in singleplayer, that would point to the NAT being an issue. Usually when I encounter a problem like this, other games are affected as well. This is by far the weirdest thing I have ever seen. But the results give all the suggestions I have already tried.
I have also Googled the problem, and find some results. I was thinking about installing BF2 and seeing if it has the same problem. I pretty much just gave up and un-installed it for good. Game locks up the whole computer, with what ever the last sound played looping over and over. I have tried using all kinds of different video and audio settings in game. I must have un-installed and re-installed the game like 6 different times. Computer is running smooth and fast, no hardware conflicts. All my other games run fine, max settings. Installed windows, downloaded all the newest drivers, updated direct x. what the hell happend? The game worked fine, then my windows installation went down the drain, so I decided to back up a few files and save myself the headache and just format. But i doubt it, many have crash issues with it.

Have you tried to update the latest DirectX? The October version? Seems BF2142 needs the october Directx isntaller to work properly!? :) If you have done that already, try if the patch 1.05 helps.
